The thought of going to a dentist for treatment can make some people anxious. At the office of Dean Israel and Associates, we offer sedation dentistry so that our patients can have a relaxed, anxiety-free experience.
Sedation Dentistry involves the use of a variety of drugs called sedatives to calm a patient or put them in a relaxed state during the course of their oral care treatments. Sedatives work to suppress the central nervous system to allow patients to feel relaxed and have a comfortable dental experience.
We offer the following types of sedation for our patients:
- Laughing Gas: This gas is administered by having the patient inhale a mix of oxygen and laughing gas through a mask placed on the nose during the procedure. The patient stays awake, and the level of sedation can be adjusted during the treatment.
- Oral Sedation: Oral sedation is given through a pill that is taken before the procedure. Depending on the dosage, it can produce a mild to moderate sedation effect.
- IV Sedation: IV sedation is a type of deep sedation administered directly into the bloodstream. It puts the patient in a state of sleep, and they may not have any memory of the procedure afterward.
- Local anesthesia: Local anesthesia is used to numb the nerves at the treatment site. This is done to prevent the sensation of pain. The anesthetic is administered via an injection given at the treatment site right before starting the procedure.
